What if you could take a co-working space to Copenhagen?
In a future vision for train travel, the trains will be designed as an activity-based space with different surfaces for different activities such as relaxation, socializing or family time. My thesis, together with SJ, proposes a concept cart for work, comparable to spending a day in a mobile coworking space. By highlighting the new ways of working, this trolley meets the needs of different individuals and for different types of work. In the carriage, there are private digital meeting places, group compartments, open collaboration areas and cocoon-like seating in quiet areas. On a train, passengers can walk around and experience different spaces in a way that is not possible with other means of transport. By improving the use of space and incorporating amenities that enhance the user experience, I aim to transform the perception of long train journeys as boring to exciting and enable a more seamless and efficient way to get work done while travelling. This thesis encourages sustainable travel through user-centered design.
Work On Track is a speculative design project aimed at reimagining train travel as a dynamic, activity-based space catering to modern work needs. Developed in collaboration with SJ, the Swedish national railway company, this concept envisions a train carriage that functions as a mobile coworking space, making long-distance travel more productive and enjoyable for passengers.

Process of defining
Understanding user perspectives on train travel. Interviews users and found out…. main reasons
The majority of Swedes are concerned about climate change and recognize that aviation plays a significant role. However, they tend to fly more frequently than the worldwide average, with international air travel accounting for approximately 10% of their consumption-based emissions.
User research across all ages/genders/ type of users…. identify network of uses/atmosphere and common activities needs happening in trains
research focus
Make time valuable in the train – provide that extra thing
NEEDS PYRAMID
What users see as the most positive points from traveling by train
Opportunity: enhance the value points such as the use of space
“>Deeper study and mapping of all the different users and in parallel all the different activities in the trains which also make different needs according to the activities the users may want to perform

text explination
An activity-based train where the cars are designed by experiences instead of classes. In this concept instead of designing each seat to fulfill all possible working needs, there are many different seating options, like in an activity-based office, and it is possibility to move place, during the journey, by re-booking your ticket.
Design Process
This project was developed following the double diamond reiterative design process where users were involved as much as possible. From interviews, workshops to brainstorm ideas and testing the prototypes, all design decisions were based on user insights.
Project Exhibition and VR experience
This project was exhibited at Konstfack Spring exhibition where a scaled model was on display accompanied by a VR experience where the visitors could wonder around the entire train carriage interior.
