Tucano was designed for the iconic italian company Zanotta, therefore the starting point was to make a piece that would be timeless and elegant but at the same time had a touch of rawness and a strong contemporary expression.
The bent tubular steel frame – painted in matte black – provides support for a thin top made of recycled saddle leather from industrial waste, consisting in one single piece xwhich follows the frame but leaves some parts uncovered.
We worked on the form until we reached an essential shape, that expresses simplicity and design synthesis. The care for details can be found in the riveted corner joints connecting the two leather flaps folding on the front and sides.

This project was developed at Monica Förster Design Studio. I was part of the team working on this project art directed by Monica Förster, and in collaboration with the Zanotta developing team. I was part of the project from beginning to end, having especially contributed to the design of the steel frame, interacting until we reached the optimal stability in the structure yet not compromising visual lightness. I was also responsible for material research and proposing alternative sustainable materials, which lead to the manufacturing of the desk to be in recycled leather. Furthermore, I created the sketches, models, and communication materials.
