Mälaren is a collection of objects that give old climbing ropes a second life. When I realized the ropes from my climbing center were discarded regularly for security reasons, I became curious about what they could be repurposed for. Though no longer safe for climbing, these ropes are still in pretty good condition aesthetically. This led me to start an exploratory project to research what objects could be made using these ropes and to experiment with different techniques for combining them to create new items. Throughout this research, I explored various applications, including lamps, baskets, carpets, coasters, and frames.
