Balda desk shelf

Exploratory project

Starting from researching about workspace, its furniture, and surroundings this project aims to solve the lack of storage space in desks without drawers. These shelves were designed to be clamped onto the desk, serving as regular storage units but at the same time, they work as a desk extension for when the whole desktop is needed but still keep some tools and items handy.

The suspending boards were designed to lock and stabilize the shelves in the two different positions: next to the table and underneath it, preventing oscillation.

On the top shelf, there are two holes with threads in their inside surfaces for screwing in jars. It is a very standard size, which matches many of the food container jars you acquire at any regular supermarkets. Therefore, you add and change your own jars, avoiding adding extra material to the project. There is also a division for a fabric bin bag to collect small waste and dust from your desk, which you can just wipe away to the side, or it can also be used to store other items.
