Using the traditional palm weaving technique from the Algarve, typically applied to revolved pieces, this project explores the connection between different forms and the plasticity of this technique. This exploration results in the collection Hélia, which includes two lamps: a table lamp and a ceiling lamp. The collection is a fusion of ideas and personalities, reflected in three sides, three perspectives, and three pairs of hands. The geometric and industrial form meet the artisanal, organic, and manual technique, as the lamps synthesize these contrasts.

This collection was developed during the Passa ao Futuro and Made In design residency in Loulé, as part of the Plant-Based Design project. Over two weeks, artisans and designers collaborated to create products that integrated traditional craft techniques with sustainable design principles. The project emphasised environmentally, socially, and economically responsible practices by using locally sourced materials and promoting ethical production methods. I teamed up with designer Sara Cherry and experienced palm craftsperson Sonia Mendez to develop the Hélia collection.
